Cost of Aged Care Services

Our hostel’s operations are governed by the requirements of the Commonwealth Department of Social Services. Fees, costs and charges apply to all residential Aged Care facilities in Australia. The following information serves as a guide and an explanation of those fees:

1. Basic Daily Care fee

All residents residing in aged care facilities will be asked to pay a daily fee as a contribution towards accommodation costs and living expenses such as meals, cleaning, laundry, cooling, heating etc. Each year in March and September, the government reviews this fee. Please note that the maximum Basic Daily Fee will not exceed 85% of the aged pension.

2. Means-Tested Fee (Care Contribution)

A Means-Tested Fee may be required by permanent residents following a government assessment of assets and income. This fee is paid directly to Residential Gardens but deducted by the government from the home’s subsidy. No resident will be required to pay more than they can afford, and no resident will be required to pay more than the cost of their care.

3. Accommodation Pricing

Accommodation pricing may be required, following a government assessment of assets, at the time of entry into Residential Gardens.
The resident can choose to pay the amount by:
Please note that a resident paying a RAD or DAP or combination of both must be left with at least $45,000 in assets.

The Maximum Permissable Interest Rate (MPIR) will be used to calculate the Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) equivalent of the Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), as well as interest payable on the payments. The current MPIR as of 1 July 2016 is 6.01%.

Financial Hardship Assistance

The Department of Social Services may be able to help with financial hardship assistance for aged care expenses. Applications for financial hardship assistance may seek assistance with their daily fees and the income-tested fee.
