Aged care – Courses revamped for age care workers

The certificate III in the aged care sector has now been replaced with a common qualification across aged care and disability. The Certificate III in Individual support has now replaced Certificate III in Aged care, Certificate III in Disability and Certificate III in Home and Community Care.

Under this new qualification introduced in the aged care sector, the student need to complete a common, general core of subjects and then specialize in either two areas from Home and community, ageing or disability. This allows greater flexibility for the workers to move between the two sectors.

Also, the Certificate IV in Home and Community Care and Certificate IV in Aged care has now been merged as the Certificate IV in Ageing support. With this, it is now mandatory for the students to meet a minimum 120 hour workplace requirement. The dual specialization also make students more employable as the providers move into some or all of the sectors.
